- Grown
from the seed of Pawpaws of good eating quality, collected at
wild patches in the Arkansas Ozarks, these trees are offered essentially
as specimens, for attracting Zebra Swallowtail butterflies, or
as rootstock.
- They will bear fruit in about six years,
the quality of the fruit cannot be predicted.
- These are nicely grown, sturdy little seedling trees. We grow
them in our greenhouse, or shade house, because they block the
UV light which Pawpaw seedlings do not like in their first year.
- We only sell Pawpaw trees in containers, because we believe
it is better for the tree. They can be planted any time during
the growing season, with minimal transplanting shock.
- Your Seedlings will be more or less leafed out, depending on
when they are shipped.
- You may order either First~Year Pawpaw trees, which will need
partial shade the rest of this summer, until they go dormant in
the Fall; or Second~Year Pawpaw trees, which are ready for full
sun. We will include a note explaining which they are. The Order
Form shows the prices and availability.
- They like a slightly acid soil high in organic matter.
- Or, start with our Superior Seedlings, for a wider
genetic range and greater chance of outstanding fruit.
